The
Manager's Files
It is one of the principal tenets of the CDE methodology that successful training cannot take place in isolation. Management should have sufficient information not only to plan training and education properly, but also to measure and reinforce it. For CDE courses, this information is provided in the Manager's Files. For each course, there is a Manager's File consisting of: 1. The Course Block Description: This provides a brief overview of the courses in the course block and what they cover. 2. Competencies: This section lists the competencies. These are similar to learning objectives, but they are stated in terms of what the learner will be able to do rather than what the learner will know. 3. Measurement: To help determine the effectiveness of the training, this section provides several suggested measurements. 4. Reinforcement: Since even successful training will not change behaviors without reinforcement, a number of reinforcement suggestions are provided. Essentially, they suggest ways that management can focus on the skills taught in the course. It does, of course require the participation of management. 5. Management Involvement: To make the course more important and to increase the effectiveness of the training, there are built-in opportunities for the manager to be involved. At several points throughout the course there are Practical Application Exercises, to be completed by the participant and reviewed by the manager. Each of these exercises is designed to help the learner apply the training to his or her specific environment.
